There's an easier way to remove studs than grabbing them with a pipe wrench. Screw on 2 nuts, tighten them against each other and then put the wrench on the inner nut.

If your lathe has the capacity for the piston then you can do it yourself the way I was taught. Turn down the shaft to remove the bad metal. Next use hard facing welding wire to build back up the shaft, use more than you think you need because next you have to turn it down to clean it up. I realized that Hard Facing might be a western Canada term. It's the same welding wire used to redo the face of an anvil. That's pretty much all there is to it.

i know im necroing a 6 year vid but did you ever manufacture anything from this? it might be worth turning it molten casting it into bars after giving it a rough pass with the bessemer process while molten. then after flux you might find it much easier to work and forgeweld the material.

The teeth should not be set inconsistently with a punch. There is a simple inexpensive tool called 'saw set pliers" where you can set the number of teeth per inch. It makes all bends of the teeth consistent and it sets appropriate amount of bending for the number of teeth per inch.

Line boring would be easier for the bore diametres.

For future reference, the quill power downfeed would be a better option to use than raising the table with such a large part. Then you can lock the Z axis in place, and the quill will feed downwards which should keep things more rigid.

Those 3 stone hones make a round hole into a triangular hole if you remove very much material . You need to learn more about speed and feed rates for machining . That looks like a poor knurling job .

I enjoy watching these videos but I miss watching old school Alec where you made knives and swords and blacksmith type stuff. Also when you made more than one 16 minute video a week. I know a lot of work goes into this stuff but surely you could make a couple of videos each week, even if it’s just continuing on the same project. You don’t even show up on my algorithm anymore, I have to actually search every couple of weeks just to watch one short video.
